Have you heard the news? I’m getting married and planning a wedding! Today we are talking about engagement photos, how to pick your wedding photographer and you’ll get a sneak peek at some of our favorite shots!
Today we are talking all about engagements and making memories! We have been engaged since April and every day since has been an absolute whirlwind. We have had our photo taken one million times, hugged so many people I have lost count and most of all we have been having so much fun planning our wedding!
No one really tells you what it will feel like when you get engaged, but I can tell you it’s a pretty amazing time. We have been filled with so much love from friends and family, it’s made the whole experience so wonderful. The good news is this feeling will last for a while as our wedding planning with extend all the way into next year!
One of the first things I wanted to get nailed down within the wedding process was a photographer. To me pictures are the most important when it comes to making memories, because you’ll always have something to look back on even 20 years down the road. For us the process of finding someone was easier than most, as my wonderful Fiance had someone in mind right off the bat. We decided to use a schoolmate and friend of Brandon’s and boy did he deliver! But before I get ahead of myself, let me share with you some important things to think about when you’re looking for a wedding photographer:
- Do your research: Start your search with Google. Start by looking for photographers in your area and then start narrowing it down to a few that you love. You want to look at their style, level of experience, how long they have been in the wedding industry etc. Make a shortlist of those you want to meet with.
- Ask lots of questions: Whether it be about pricing, camera equipment or available dates, ask any and all questions you might have. Having open communication with your vendors is really going to help in the long run, so why not start off on the right foot? Get a feel for the way the photographer communicates with you as this will be really important later on.
- Meet In Person: This may seem like an obvious one, but don’t book anything until you have met your photographer in person. Not only will you get a feel for them as your wedding photographer, you will also see how they are in a social situation. It can be really helpful to have a meeting face to face, as you will be able to tell how you get along with your photographer and you’ll be able to give them an overview of what you’re looking for.
- Fine Print: Before signing a contract or paying a deposit, make sure to ask all the important questions such as:
What will the final price be of the whole package?
What is included in the photography package?
Will an engagement session cost extra? (Most are included)
What will happen in case of an emergency?
How much of a deposit do you require and when is it due?
And these are just some of the important questions to keep in mind when meeting for the first time. Whatever you do, trust your intuition because only you know what will work best for your wedding day!
Once you have decided and booked your photographer, you’ll be able to take a big breath as you know you will have beautiful photos on the day of your wedding. Another great way to be sure you love your photographer and or his/hers style is an engagement shoot! We had our engagement photos taken this summer and I don’t think I could be any happier with our choice in photographer. We ended up hiring the very talented Juan and Paula from SixTwoNine Photography.
Our engagement photos took place on 3 different beaches in West Vancouver, BC. Brandon and I spent a lot of our dating time on these beaches and we hold them close to our heart as they are filled with so many loving memories. To top it off, we got to celebrate our engagement by showing off our beautiful city! One thing I am really excited to do with these pictures is show them off. For me, there is no better way to do that then display them in our home where we can see them everyday. I love using Shutterfly for this as the options are absolutely endless for anything from wedding decor to personalized gifts! My first project will be a photo book that can sit on our coffee table, for us and our guests to look through. I’m also thinking that our Love Sac would look pretty amazing with a decorative photo pillow or two.
Lastly, I think it’s time to share some of these engagement photos I have talking about! I can’t wait to share them with you and I hope you love them as much as I do!
